AlR Relief Responds to Durban Floods
In response to the recent January 2024 flash floods in and around Durban, Al Ihsan Relief (AIR) in conjunction with Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre swiftly deployed targeted assistance to communities severely impacted by the disaster.
AIR focused on delivering essential supplies to residents facing immediate hardship during this time. These areas of concentration include Phoenix, wherein the team recognised specific needs within Sastri Park, Zwelisha Park Informal Settlement, and Newpark areas, coordinating and distributing directly within these communities.
Other areas include Verulam – wherein Waterloo residents were ensured prompt access to vital resources – and Tongaat – specifically the Pine Street Low Cost Units, Flamingo Heights, and Tin Town Informal Settlement – which the team addressed without delay.
Food and water were provided to affected households, with AIR distributing food parcels and delivering 500 5-litre bottles to impacted residents. Additionally, AIR recognised the importance of human dignity and hygiene, further distributing 100 Dignity Packs; containing essential sanitary products; to vulnerable individuals and families.
The Al Ihsan Relief team remains actively engaged with the situation, collaborating with local authorities and communities to closely monitor areas at risk and provide further assistance where needed.
AIR is committed to working transparently with affected communities and stakeholders to ensure efficient and effective delivery of critical aid, as well as ensuring the continued support of those affected by this disaster.
