Al Ihsan Relief Fire Intervention in Springfield - Durban
Al Ihsan Relief (AIR Relief) in conjunction with the Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre responded promptly to the devastating fire incident that occurred on Thursday, 16 November 2023, in the M19 Quarry Road West informal settlement situated in Springfield, Ward 25, eThekweni. The fire led to the displacement of more than 150 families and posed a significant threat to their livelihoods and well-being.
Intervention
On Saturday, 18 November 2023, at the immediate aftermath of the incident, our team mobilised resources and provided:
• Number of Hot Meals: 500
Sunday, 19 November 2023: Continuing our support to the affected families, we distributed:
• Number of Hot Meals: 500
Tuesday, 21 November 2023: Expanding our relief efforts, the following provisions were extended:
• Number of Hot Meals: 500
• Juice: 180 Litres
Impact
The timely provision of 1,500 hot meals and 180 litres of juice was instrumental in addressing the immediate hunger and nutritional needs of the affected families. Moreover, these efforts contributed significantly to the upliftment of spirits and resilience within the community during this challenging period of displacement.
